Firms need to Monitor Energy Use to Save

THE British Council for Offices (BCO) have stated that businesses who want to improve their green credentials need to monitor their energy usage. According to the BCO, the first step for companies and organisations who wish to improve their energy efficiency is to be able to calculate and see the amount of their energy wastage. "Just measure how much energy you use and monitor it," said Paul Edwards, BCO's Environmental Sustainability Group chair. “Once you do that you realise, ‘Actually, why am I doing that? Why am I paying all that money? Why am I leaving the lights on overnight? Why is the air conditioning running all night and day?" Chief executive of the British Property Federation, Liz Peace, added that energy savings can be achieved by businesses at a low cost by changing the way a building is occupied and managed. With direct energy management and accurate real-time monitoring of energy use, control is gained over energy demand, leading to the implementation of the correct energy efficiency technology and upgrades for a particular building and the way a business needs to operate. Enigin's Eniscope Real-time and Analytics system is installed globally into industrial, commercial and public buildings, allowing managers and decision makers to see graphically what energy they are using - in real time, as the energy is used. Eniscope also provides analytical data, showing the historical energy use data, adding to the ability to make sound decisions on further energy efficiencies.
